Quite often people I meet ask me if it is possible to start training singing lessons as an adult. Sometimes they ask with a bit of hope, sometimes with distrust, sometimes even challenging me, and most of the time, with a bit of sadness in their eyes.
It seems like self-expression through the voice is a huge topic for most people. Of course, I couldn’t agree more with that: the voice is channeled through our throat chakra which is the energy center for self-expression.
As a singing teacher, I specialize in teaching adults. It’s where life has led me through my years of teaching. I am very happy every time I see my students discover a new way to use their bodies to allow the voice to flow naturally. More often than not, adult students start their vocal training not only to create music and improve their voice but also as a way to feel better.
There are many myths out there about whether it’s possible to improve your voice as an adult or not. Very often I hear things like “if you don’t start studying at a young age then you will never be able to do it”, and of course the old “you have to be born with a gift”. These statements are completely untrue. Let me tell you some of the reasons why I think it’s very beneficial to start taking singing lessons as an adult:
So if you are an adult, wondering if it is too late, stop thinking about it and go for it NOW – you will have so much fun and you will grow in the process!
