In this blog post, I break down the three main steps to becoming a singer. If you want to go somewhere, you need a clear direction to not get lost in the process. So keep on reading/ watching and start crafting your singing path!
There are certain steps to follow if you want to become a singer.
Understanding these steps is crucial to having a successful journey as a singer, and it can save you hundreds of hours.
My name is Jorgelina, I’m a vocal coach And I teach adults how to sing contemporary singing from a holistic and integral approach
There are three main areas that you need to develop if you want to become a singer.
The first one is your music planning, then your music work, and then your performance plans.
The first area is the planning area. So when you decide to become a singer, it’s very important that you understand what type of singer you want to be. Of course, this can change. But having an idea of what sort of music would you like to sing is going to help you direct your vocal technique to your goals and that is going to save you a lot of time. It’s very different singing country music than singing musical theater and your vocal technique is going to be oriented to them in a different way.
Equally, it is good at the beginning to have an idea of what would you like to do with your singing. Are you planning to be a karaoke singer? Are you planning to have a professional career as a singer? There are a lot of different possibilities and within every possibility, there are other possibilities. So it’s good that you have just a general idea of what you want to do. Of course, that can change as you go, but as always, having direction is going to make things much clearer and faster for you.
If you are not too clear on what you want, then go to the description below. I have there a goal-setting template that you can download and it’s going to help you gain clarity. Gaining clarity will help you reach your goals faster.
Once you decide what type of singer would you like to be, it’s time to work. Now, when you train to become a singer, there are three areas within your vocal training that you are going to be working on. These three areas are interconnected, of course, and they are musicality training, vocal technique, and repertoire work. When you are working on musicality training, you are learning to sing intervals, you are learning to sing scales, you are learning to, recognize pitch, to sing in different keys, you are learning to sing on rhythm.
And of course this, training is going to be different depending on what styles we like to sing.
The second aspect of this vocal training is the vocal technique. I have another video in which I explain the hierarchy of vocal technique. I’m going to link this video for you to watch, but I’m just going to tell you very quickly a little bit of what I mean.
And it’s this. There is a certain hierarchy when you study vocal technique. You can’t learn to belt before you learn to identify the different registers, for example. At least know if you want to do it from a healthy perspective. So within the vocal technique, you are going to be learning to identify your different voice registers.
You’re going to be able to blend them. And then when you have that result, you’re going to be working on specific stylistic resources from every style. For example, if you would like to sing musical theater, you are going to be developing the ability to belt.
finally, within the music training, you are going to be working with repertoire.
Within repertoire, you are going to be learning a lot of things that have to do with the world of songs, such as: memorizing lyrics, memorizing song structures, and being able to, of course, sing the songs in tune with rhythm, you’re going to be learning about phrasing, you’re going to be learning stylistic studies that has to do with your chosen style, with your chosen genre.
And of course, you’re going to be working on finding your own style.
If this is you and you have these steps clear, leave a comment and tell me what kind of singer would you like to be.
Of course, a third component of your singing journey is what you want to do with your singing. Some people want to learn singing for their own enjoyment, and some people would like to learn singing and start performing as a hobbyist, or some people want to take it as a professional career.
Depending on your singing goals, your journey and your strategy will be different. So, you have these three aspects that are super important to work. The planning stage, the music training stage, and the performance stage.
Those are the steps that you have and the more clarity you have, the faster you’re going to reach those goals and you’re going to become the singer that you want to be.
If you would like to improve your singing faster go to the description below. I have a resource that you can download that is going to allow you to increase your vocal range and that is going to help you improve your vocal technique much faster.
