Coldplay in Auckland! Review by Vocal Coach - Music Of The Spheres Tour

November 22, 20243 min read

Last Saturday, I had the privilege of attending Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres concert in Auckland, New Zealand. It was my first time seeing the band live, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of magical!

A Concert Beyond Expectations

The show wasn’t just about the music (although that was phenomenal); it was an immersive experience. From the colorful wristbands that lit up the crowd to the interactive spheres floating through the air, every detail was meticulously planned. Fireworks and cascades of paper stars during A Sky Full of Stars made the night feel like a dream. And then there were the “magic glasses” handed out before the show, which turned every light into a heart-shaped glow—a surprise that added to the sense of wonder.

Coldplay didn’t just perform—they transported us to another world, filled with joy, connection, and awe.

Singing Lessons From Chris Martin

As a vocal coach, I couldn’t help but analyze Chris Martin’s performance. His singing and stage presence left me with valuable insights for vocalists at any level. Here are my top takeaways:

1. Physical Stamina is Key

Chris Martin’s energy was astonishing. Running, playing instruments, and singing flawlessly for almost three hours—three times in one week—requires incredible physical fitness. As singers, our bodies are our instruments, so maintaining stamina is crucial. Whether you’re an amateur or a touring professional, building your physical endurance will only enhance your vocal performance.

2. Positive Energy is Contagious

From the moment Chris stepped on stage, he radiated genuine happiness. His smile wasn’t just for show; it felt authentic, and the audience couldn’t help but feel uplifted. This is a lesson for all performers: your energy is your gift to the audience. If you’re caught up in worrying about hitting every note perfectly, you risk losing that vital connection. Focus on the story you’re telling and the emotion you’re sharing—it’s what people will remember most.

3. Master Your Tools, Then Play

Chris Martin has mastered vocal techniques like transitioning seamlessly between chest voice and falsetto, making it look effortless. This ability to “play” with his voice, rather than overthinking each note, shows the importance of practice and mastery. Once a skill is second nature, it becomes a tool for creative expression. For aspiring singers, this is your goal: to train so thoroughly that your voice feels free.

4. Live Performance Skills Matter

Singing live in tune is no easy feat, yet Chris does it with ease, maintaining a strong connection to his bandmates and the audience. In an age when many artists rely on pre-recorded tracks, his genuine live vocals are a testament to his artistry. It’s a reminder that great singing isn’t just about technique; it’s about musicality, emotion, and presence.

Why This Show Inspired Me

The Music of the Spheres concert wasn’t just entertainment—it was an experience that showcased the power of music to connect and uplift. Chris Martin’s performance reinforced the importance of passion, preparation, and authenticity in singing.

If you’re a vocalist, there’s so much to learn from him. Whether it’s building your stamina, perfecting your vocal techniques, or bringing joy to your audience, every singer can take a page from his book.

Some feedback from past students!

Highly recommended; Jorgelina, the primary singing instructor knows her stuff and really helped guide me through finding my mixed voice.

She has huge amounts of knowledge on the science and theory behind singing and approaches lessons in a very structured but still personalised manner. Very happy with my decision to take lessons here.

I really struggled with the high notes before coming to Jorgelina! She's coached me through so many techniques and although there is so much to learn I feel like I've seen lots of progress already. My confidence has grown massively since joining the group classes too and she encourages performing at every opportunity. I love that Jorgelina takes a holistic approach to singing and understands that it's not just about sounding great, the voice also has strong connections to the body and mind. Thanks Jorgelina!

Bruh. Jorgelina is an awesome singing teacher! Super knowledgable, very engaged and 100% passionate. She's helped me a lot. Her methods and techniques feel organic and natural. She moves at your pace and is super supportive about you achieving your singing goals. Would recommend her to anyone with a vagus nerve (thats everyone btw!).
